Dan zahvalnosti (Thanksgiving)

Zahvlaljivanje

Allah dž,š, kaže u suri Hidžr 98: Zato veličaj Gospodara svoga i hvali Ga, i molitvu (namaz) obavljaj.

Zahvala Allahu dž,š, Gospodaru nebesa, Zemlje i svemira.

On je doista blag i mnogo prašta.

Imam Nesai ibn Madže i Hakim.

Imam Muslim i Tirmizi.

Thanksgiving

Slide1Dear Muslims; my talk to you today is about the feast of thanksgiving. As you are aware, it is a national holiday in the USA. It is a feast of thanksgiving to God who helped the early immigrants to survive the hardship and the severe weather. It is a good habit that the government of USA instituted a national holiday of thanks and appreciation.

It is good that a large number of families consider it to be a family reunion. It is also good to find out that a large number of families do invite friends, and friend of their family members to dine together at a table spread of turkey. It is a very good habit to find out that some organizations take it as a pleasure to invite the deprived, the seniors, and the needy to the feast of thanksgiving.

While this function is to take place once in a year, still one finds out that a good number of people misuse this occasion. One may see so many drunk people driving cars, and many other accidents. Therefore, we Muslims should be concerned about this occasion. We should present an alternative solution to augment the idea of thanks to God Almighty.

Dear Muslims: On this occasion of holiday for thanksgiving, I would like to mention here the concept of thanks and praise to Allah in Islam. Al-Hamd and Ash-Shukr – the word Al-Hamd has been used 67 times in the Qur’an in different forms and on different subjects. The word Ash-Shukr has been used 73 times in different forms and on different subjects too.

The famous verse in the Qur’an related to the praise of Allah is: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. This particular verse has been mentioned 6 times in the Qur’an. Dear Muslims: we should remember that the verse “praise be to Allah” is recited by Muslims in their daily prayers for a minimum of 17 times if they pray only the obligatory prayers or 40 times all.

We should remember that Muslims also do read after each prayer 33 times for each of the Tasbeeh (the glorification) and the Tahmeed (the praise) and the Takbeer (Allah is greatest). This means that a Muslim who prays five times a day, will read the praise to Allah for a minimum of 140 times a day. For a Muslim therefore, the reading of “praise be to Allah” is read not less than 200 times a day for normal life’s activity. On some occasions such as Friday, Eid or during Ramadan a Muslim may read even more than that.

Allah commanded Prophet a,s, to glorify and to praise Him on different occasions. Accordingly, every Muslim supposed to glorify the praises of Allah. In surah Al-Hijr 98 Allah said: So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him]. One may ask what for one has to praise Allah regularly and daily. This is a legitimate question and the answer to it would be very simple. One has to praise Allah for many reasons, among which are the following:

Praise be to Allah because it is He who created the heavens and the earth. It is He who created light and dark. In this regard Allah said in surah Al-An’am 1: Praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, and made the darkness and the light. Yet those who reject Faith hold (others) as equal.

Praise be to Allah because He guides us to the straight path.  Praise be to Allah because He is the Lord of the heavens, the earth and the universe. Praise be to Allah because He begets no son, because He had no associates and because He does not need protection from any group.

We should remember that everything in the universe does celebrate the praise of Allah. Allah said in surah Isra 44: The seven heavens and the earth, and all beings therein, declare His glory; there is not a thing but celebrates His praises; and yet you understand not how they declare His glory.

Since this is a fact that everything in the universe praises Allah, then it is our duty and responsibility as committed people to praise Allah for everything in us and around us. We have to remember that the more we praise Allah, the more goodness we receive from Allah. Allah said in surah Ibrahim 7: If you are grateful, I will add more favours unto you, but if you show ingratitude, truly my punishment is terrible indeed.

Dear brothers, Allah does not need our thanks and appreciation, it is we who need His help and support.in case we refuse to praise Him for all the favours He is giving us, the curse of Allah will befall us.  Allah said in surah Luqman 12: And who is grateful, does so to the profit of his own soul, but is any is ungrateful, indeed Allah is free of all wants, worth of all praise.  In surah Al-Baqarah 152 Allah said: Then do you remember Me I will remember you, be grateful to Me and reject no faith.

Narrated by Jabir that the Messenger of Allah said: The best remembrance is “there is no deity but Allah” and the best supplication is “praise be to Allah”. Ibn Majah and Hakim. Narrated by Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: To say “glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there in no deity but Allah, and Allah is the greatest” is better for me than all what the sun shines on. Imam Tirmthi.

Prophet Muhammad therefore said: “How wonderful is the case of a Believer; If something good happens, he expresses gratitude; that is good for him – If adversity befalls him, he is patient and that too is good for him.”

We hope and pray that all of us will continue to live according to the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, in this way we will live in peace and harmony among ourselves, the people around us and with Allah. May Allah guide us to fulfill our duty and our responsibility in every aspect in our life? May Allah be please with us, and may Allah make us thankful to Him indeed.

One comment on “Dan zahvalnosti (Thanksgiving)

  1. Alhamdulillah.
