Ukrcaj se s nama! Come aboard with us!

Imam Buhari i Muslim.

Come aboard with us, making Doa & Being Hopeful – Embarking on The Last Ten Nights of Ramadan

dua101.jpgLet us be grateful to Allah s.w.t, for the opportunity that He has blessed us with; the opportunity to reap the barakah of Ramadan. May Allah s.w.t, grant us with a long life, and help us to strengthen our takwa and faith.

We are now in the last ten nights of Ramadan. This is indeed extremely precious for all of us because it means that Ramadan will soon leave us, along with the countless rewards promised in this month and all its special benefits. Thus, as we embark on the last ten days of Ramadan, let us continue to increase our supplications (doa) to Allah s.w.t, In fact, Allah strongly encourages us to ask from Him by making doa. Allah says in surah Al-Baqarah verse 186: And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.

According to Ibnu Kathir in his book of tafsir, this verse was revealed after the verse that talks about fasting. It is a firm reminder on the importance of increasing our supplication in the month of Ramadan, especially when we are breaking our fast. It is one of the times when Allah will accept our prayers.

The month of Ramadan is one of the times when one’s supplications and requests will always be fulfilled by Allah s.w.t, as long as one is a strong believer and places one’s hopes on Allah. At the same time, to ensure that our doa will be accepted by Allah s.w.t, our faith has to be perfected and we must be in a state of obedience toward Allah s.w.t, let us reflect upon a saying of Prophet Muhammad a,s:He then made a mention of a person who travels widely, his hair dishevelled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky (and thus makes the supplication):O Lord, O Lord, whereas his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful. How can then his supplication be accepted? [Hadith reported by Imam Muslim]

Thus, let us reap the opportunities presented in this Ramadan that will soon leave us, by reflecting upon the state of our iman. Have we left behind what Allah has forbidden upon us? Have we been truly practicing what Allah has commanded upon us? Perhaps we often feel that we have made lots of dua, not just for ourselves but also for the well being of our family members, our local community as well as the global community, but we feel that our prayers and our wishes have yet to be answered. Thus, we need to embark on self-reflection, have we truly obeyed Allah s.w.t?

It is not too late for us to return to Allah and start to transform ourselves for the better- by changing ourselves and making the commitment to ensure that today will be better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today. Do not ever, not even for a split second, end our connection with Allah s.w.t.

No matter how busy we get, dealing with worldly affairs, we must be aware that the rizk (sustenance) that we receive belongs to Allah and is a blessing that Allah has granted us with. Let us strive to ensure that we are always close to Allah and that Allah is close to us. We should know that the path to Allah is straight and clear. When we feel the realisation in our hearts to return to Allah and make taubah (repentance) to Allah, then we have indeed started upon our journey to be closer to Allah. In a hadith qudsi, Allah s.a.w.t, says through a hadiths of Rasulullah a,s: If he (the servants of Allah) draws near to Me a hand’s length, I draw near to him an arm’s length. And if he comes to Mewalking, I go to him at speed. [Hadith reported by Imam Bukhari and Muslim]

Hence, we should strive to improve our relationship with Allah s.w.t, especially during these last ten nights of Ramadan. Do not forgot this golden opportunity to seek the night of Lailatul Qadar by increasing our acts of worship during these last ten nights of Ramadan. It is the night where Allah’s mercy and forgiveness is bestowed upon every servant who is successful in meeting this special night.

Besides trying to cleanse ourselves, we must also ensure that we use this Ramadan to purify our wealth by paying our zakat, which will be used to help the poor and needy. Remember, the wealth that we own is a gift from Allah s.w.t, and Allah has commanded that when the wealth has fulfilled its hawl and nisab, then it is obligatory upon us to pay our zakat. We should realise that one of the ways to attain barakah in our rizk (sustenance) and wealth, is by paying zakat.

Let us strengthen our souls with iman, fill our hearts with takwa and increase our supplications throughout the remaining days of this blessed month. May Allah s.w.t, grant us the opportunity to purify ourselves, and our wealth, so that we can attain serenity and well being in this world and the hereafter Aamin Ya Rabbal Alamin.
